A Historical Retrospection of our School

The 9th Junior High School of Piraeus, our School, is located in the area of kastella, a beautiful, picturesque neighbourhood of Piraeus, nearby the Votsalakia “Pebbles” beach.
After being detached from one of the oldest schools of Piraeus, the Rallion School, it was founded under the name of the 6th Junior High of Piraeus.
It kept this name till 1979 when changed it into the 9th Junior High of Piraeus under a new government regulation (Act of Law – FEK 734.T.B – 31/8/1979). This is the name the school bears up to the present time.
At first it took up residence in the “Archimedes” Technical School on the 2nd Merarchias (Division_ Street. Then, after the strong earthquake of 1981, our school was housed in the building of the Ionidios exemplary School of Piraeus. Then it moved into the 10th Junior High premises on Eleftherios Venizelos street.
In September 1988, the School settled in its own building on the building block surrounded by Syraggiou, Karatza – Wilson and Clemanso streets. This is the present location, too.
It’s also worth mentioning that our school was built on the exact location of an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Asklepios, the ancient God of Medicine. However, before the School building was built, a theatre made by Anastasios Tsohas had been located on this site. This theatre became the famous cinema “Αελλώ” which entertained the people of Piraeus for a long time.
